Hearts, Love and Valentines

Can anyone think of love and caring or Valentines’ Day without associating the symbolic heart with it?  I have always been intrigued by symbols and their meanings – a language like hieroglyphics or petrographic images.

I often wondered, as a child, how this organ in our bodies came to represent love.  This iconic symbol must be one of the most used and recognizable designs ever, even more than the “smiley face”!

Now I simply look at it as a symbolic design to be utilized for written and artistic expression and I am at peace with it.   Someday, I’ll research its’ origin.
